Job Description Job Description Role Summary We are looking for
an OSP Design Engineer who will be responsible for the
comprehensive design, engineering, and permitting of fiber optic
network infrastructure. This role involves planning the "Last Mile"
and "Middle Mile" connectivity, determining the most efficient path
for fiber cables (aerial, buried, or underground), and creating the
detailed construction prints required for field crews to build the
network. The ideal candidate bridges the gap between theoretical
network planning and physical construction, ensuring designs are
cost-effective, constructible, and compliant with all local, state,
and industry regulations (NESC, NEC). Key Responsibilities Network
Design & Engineering Design aerial and underground fiber routes for
FTTx projects Create construction drawings using CAD and GIS tools
Perform aerial make-ready and pole loading analysis Design
underground routes including HDD and trenching paths Produce fiber
splicing diagrams and allocation sheets Permitting & Right-of-Way
Prepare and submit permits to municipalities, DOTs, and railroads
Coordinate with joint-use utility owners for pole attachments
Research easements and ROW access requirements Field & Construction
Support Conduct field walks to validate routes and identify
obstacles Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs) for budgeting and
procurement Produce and update as-built documentation after
construction Qualifications / Requirements: Bachelor's degree in
Engineering (Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical) or equivalent field
experience 3 years of experience in OSP engineering, telecom
construction, or utility design Proficiency with CAD and GIS tools
(AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, QGIS) Experience with OSP design
platforms such as 3-GIS, Spatial INFO, Aramis, or similar
Experience designing aerial and underground fiber networks Working
knowledge of NESC (National Electrical Safety Code), GO 95/128 (if
in California) and Right-of-Way regulations Strong Excel skills for
BOM creation and tracking Deep understanding of fiber network
components (OLT, Splitters, ONT, splice closures, strand and lash).
Soft Skills: Ability to modify designs on the fly when construction
crews encounter unexpected obstacles in the field. Capable of
explaining technical constraints to non-technical project managers
or city officials Precision is critical; a mistake in a permit
drawing can shut down a job site for week Work Environment Hybrid:
A mix of office/remote work for design and drafting, combined with
field visits for scoping and verification. May require travel to
project sites for walk-outs and quality control inspections. About
