Job Description Summary

Serves as the Program Manager for Forensic Nursing at Texas A&M University College of Nursing. The Program Manager for Forensic Nursing is responsible for managing telehealth forensic nursing staff, training clinical personnel at Tex-TRAC provider sites, and for consulting with the telehealth team regarding the ongoing needs and status of the telehealth program. In conjunction with the telehealth team, the program manager develops and implements policies, programs, systems, services, and processes for the telehealth forensic nursing program that align with Duffy's Quality Caring Model and the mission, vision, and values of the Tex-TRAC program and the Center of Excellence in Forensic Nursing at Texas A&M University. Responsibilities include maintaining a high functioning patient centered program, cultivating a growth-minded work culture, and acting as a resource to telehealth program staff on sexual assault issues, and working with partner agencies and facilities to increase the efficacy of local responses to sexual assault survivors. Travel required to telehealth sites.

This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding which is renewed under the provisions of the grantor of the contract. The current grant and/or contract funding is through 9/30/2022. This position, therefore, is contingent upon continuation of funding of these grants and/or contracts and satisfactory job performance.

Qualifications

Required Education:


  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience

    Required Experience:

    • 5 years' related program management experience working with adult and adolescent sexual assault survivors

      Required Licenses and Certifications:

      • Candidate must hold a current, unencumbered RN license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas
      • Current SANE-A and/or CA-SANE certification

        Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

        • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
        • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications
        • Verbal and written communication skills

          Preferred Education:

          • Bachelor's or Master's of Science Degree in nursing or related field

            Preferred Experience:

            • Minimum of 7 years as a RN with a minimum of 5 years with a BSN
            • 3 years' experience managing an adult/adolescent SANE program
            • 3 years' experience precepting forensic nurses
            • Experience presenting education or continuing education to health care professionals
            • 200 medical forensic exams
            • Multidisciplinary team or sexual assault response team participation
            • Experience leading forensic team case reviews
            • 5 years' experience leading a forensic nursing/ sexual assault nurse examiner program
            • Experience conducting forensic medical exams via telehealth
            • 3 years' experience managing a program with pediatric patients
            • Experience with human subject research

              Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

              • SANE-P and/or CP-SANE certification
              • AFN-BC

                Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

                • Bilingual in Spanish
                • Practice philosophy aligned with Duffy's Quality Caring Model
                • Knowledge of issues related to violence, abuse, and neglect in vulnerable populations.
                • Proficiency in the operation of computers and general office software programs, including word-processing, spread-sheet, and database software
                • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
                • Maintains flexibility; shows resilience when faced with difficult situations and fosters these qualities within the telehealth team
                • Effectively organizes work to meet frequent and/or multiple deadlines
                • Ability to innovate, collaborate, and champion change with stakeholders both inside and outside of the program
                • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
                • Responsive to the needs of partners with diverse backgrounds and experiences
                • Ability to respond and provide forensic nursing consultations in a compassionate, empathetic and non-judgmental fashion and to provide support to crisis victims from diverse ethnic, religious, gender, identity, and sexuality groups.
                • Knowledge of applicable privacy laws including HIPAA, HI-TECH and VAWA
                • Ability to accept and incorporate constructive feedback from supervisors and subordinates
                • Maintain forensic nursing certification(s)
                • Ability to provide continuous quality improvement feedback to telehealth forensic nurses in a manner that is constructive and empowering
                • Ability to travel as required to telehealth sites

                  Job Responsibilities

                  • Plans, organizes, directs and manages day-to-day activities, developing and implementing procedures for the administration of the program
                  • Recruits experienced forensic nurses for Tex-TRAC program
                  • Hires and orients new forensic nurses
                  • Supervises on-call forensic nurses and other staff as required
                  • Provides teleforensic nursing consultation as needed
                  • Maintains and develops communications between partners by attending meetings and conference calls.
                  • Facilitates staff meetings and other meetings
                  • Attends and contributes to Tex-TRAC team meetings
                  • Maintains on-call schedule
                  • Assists with yearly budgetary and contract processes. Prepares vouchers, purchase orders and requisition and coordinate with accounting personnel and other support staff.
                  • Approves remote telehealth forensic nurse clinician invoices
                  • Reviews encounters and documentation with remote telehealth forensic nurses/clinicians
                  • Develops, implements, and updates program policies and procedures as required
                  • Takes on-call as needed
                  • Delivers performance evaluations
                  • Coaches and mentors staff members
                  • Assists in developing strategic plans and goals to support the program.
                  • Implements quality improvement processes within the program
                  • Compiles and presents reports as needed
                  • Some travel required to locations within Texas
                  • Develops and conducts programs including leadership training, conferences, seminars and workshops
                  • Trains personnel at Tex-TRAC provider sites' on-site clinicians
                  • Supports Tex-TRAC provider sites' on-site facilities in protocols and procedure development
                  • Facilitates regular communication with site liaisons
                  • Facilitates regular communication with advocacy liaisons
                  • Builds collaborative relationships via site visits and multidisciplinary sexual assault response team attendance
                  • Provides forensic nursing consultations in a compassionate, empathetic and non-judgmental fashion and provides support to crisis victims from diverse ethnic, religious, gender, identity, and sexuality groups.
                  • Performs other duties as assigned.
