Job Summary CenterPoint Energy is seeking a strategic and
results-driven District Director to lead our Texas Gas Operations
within a dynamic union/non-union environment. This role is
responsible for directing all aspects of gas distribution
operations within the assigned district, ensuring safety,
regulatory compliance, operational excellence, employee engagement,
and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will bring strong
leadership, deep knowledge of gas utility operations, and
experience navigating labor relations in both union and non-union
settings. Essential Functions
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to gas distribution
field operations within the district, including construction,
maintenance, emergency response, and customer service
activities.
- Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring adherence to all
safety protocols and regulatory requirements (PHMSA, DOT, OSHA,
etc.).
- Manage and develop district operations managers, supervisors,
and field personnel to promote high performance, accountability,
and continuous improvement.
- Lead operations in both union and non-union environments,
partnering effectively with Labor Relations to ensure compliance
with collective bargaining agreements and to foster positive
labor-management relations.
- Develop and manage budgets, monitor financial performance, and
drive cost efficiency without compromising safety or service
quality.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Engineering,
Regulatory, Legal, HR, and Customer Operations to support district
goals and initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local communities,
emergency responders, and regulatory agencies.
- Oversee emergency preparedness and response activities for
natural gas operations, including storm and incident response.
- Drive customer satisfaction by ensuring timely, high-quality
service and effective communication with residential, commercial,
and industrial customers.
- Ensure the successful execution of capital and O&M projects
within the district. Education Description
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or another relevant
field, from an accredited college or university preferred. Advanced
degree preferred.
- In lieu of a degree, will consider a combination of education
and related experience in totaling ten (10) years, Experience
- Requires a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively
responsible experience in gas utility operations.
- Requires at least five (5) years in a leadership or management
capacity.
- Strong knowledge of gas distribution systems, field operations,
and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Proven experience leading in both union and non-union
environments; working knowledge of labor contracts and collective
bargaining practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage
complex projects, and drive performance in a regulated
industry.
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and interpersonal
