(HMS) is a community-based, non-profit organization that empowers
Houston-area residents by providing the resources, training, and
platforms necessary to create, produce, and distribute original
television programming. For over 30 years, HMS has promoted free
expression and fostered creative collaborations by ensuring all
community voices have access to media. We focus on airing original
programming produced by the community, for the community. We are
now seeking a dynamic and strategic Executive Director to help lead
our efforts in expanding our services, driving growth, and
fulfilling our mission.Position Overview: The Executive Director
(ED) is the chief executive of the organization, responsible for
providing strategic leadership and overseeing the operations of
HMS. The ED works closely with the Board of Directors and staff to
develop long-term goals, strategies, and policies. This individual
will drive growth and achieve organizational goals while ensuring
the core mission and values of the studio are upheld in all
activities.Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the organization to fulfill its mission and
values.
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to set strategic
direction, goals, and objectives for long-term success.
- Oversee the development, communication, and implementation of
effective growth strategies.
- Act as a key representative of the studio, fostering
relationships with stakeholders, partners, and the community.
- Oversee day-to-day operations, including studio services,
programming, and resource management.
- Ensure the studio infrastructure, systems, and personnel are
aligned with organizational growth goals.
- Spearhead the development of operational plans that accommodate
increased demand for services and programming.
- Manage the studio's financial resources, including budget
creation, monitoring, and reporting to the Board.
- Drive fundraising efforts, including grants, donations, and
community partnerships.
- Ensure sustainable financial health by exploring and securing
diverse revenue streams.
- Lead, mentor, and motivate the staff, fostering a
high-performance, accountable environment.
- Attract, recruit, and retain key team members while supporting
their professional development.
- Ensure that employees are well-equipped and supported to
achieve both individual and organizational goals.
- Serve as the lead "client-care officer" by engaging directly
with clients, partners, and key stakeholders.
- Build strong relationships with local government, community
organizations, and businesses to promote public access media.
- Advocate for public access programming as a tool for empowering
the community and amplifying diverse voices.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and
industry standards.
- Work closely with the Board to ensure sound governance
practices and compliance with non-profit regulations.
- Provide regular updates to the Board on operational and
financial performance, challenges, and
opportunities.Qualifications:Education: Bachelor's degree in
Nonprofit Management, Media Studies, Business Administration, or
related field. A Master's degree is preferred.Experience: 10-15
years of experience in leadership and management, with a strong
background in media and non-profit organizations.Skills:
- Strategic thinking and business acumen.
- Proven ability to lead diverse teams and build a culture of
accountability and high performance.
- Strong financial management and budget oversight
experience.
- Experience with fundraising, grant writing, and community
engagement.
- Ability to work with a Board of Directors to set and achieve
organizational goals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Preferred
Experience:
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal policies on public
access television.
- Experience with media production technology and
infrastructure.
- Understanding of social services, employment programs, and
community needs.Supervisory Responsibilities: The Executive
Director manages supervisory and non-supervisory employees,
ensuring the coordination and evaluation of all staff. This
includes hiring, training, performance appraisals, and resolving
any personnel issues.Work Environment: This position operates in a
professional office environment, utilizing standard office
equipment (computers, phones, photocopiers, etc.). Reasonable

requires occasional bending, lifting, and filing. Reasonable

required for events or activities related to the organization's
mission. The role may involve both local and occasional overnight
