The Estelle Unit, located in Huntsville, is home to UTMB s dedicated Emergency Department campus, established in February 2023. This state-of-the-art facility offers 24-hour emergency care not only to the Estelle location but also to inmates from surrounding units. Equipped with advanced medical resources including X-ray, ultrasound, diagnostics lab, respiratory services, telehealth capabilities, a dedicated dialysis treatment area, and a mobile MRI the ED allows providers to deliver urgent and emergency care swiftly and securely. By minimizing the need to transport patients to outside hospitals, this model enhances both safety and patient outcomes.
