are seeking an Assistant Data Scientist to join the D2I Analytics
team.As an Assistant Data Scientist, you develop and build
high-quality, nuanced, and timely data analytics to empower
strategic decisions and policies by University leadership and
stakeholders. This position supports strategic analytics projects
for decision-makers within the Provost's Office, the President's
Office, and other University leadership.ResponsibilitiesData and
Statistical Analysis:
- Develops and maintains descriptive, predictive, and
prescriptive analytics and consumable reports, dashboards, and
other analytical tools to provide University leadership and various
stakeholders with necessary data to support decision-making.
- Applies advanced statistical modeling, reusable and scalable
coding, data visualization techniques, and other analytical skills
to translate business logic and produce deliverables in response to
executive leadership's requests.
- Provides advanced interpretation of complex analyses and data.
Engages in summarizing, writing up, and presenting findings.
Provides practical implications and applied suggestions.
- Engages in (and automates where possible) best practices for
data-detailed activities, such as collecting, merging, cleaning,
coding, validating, documenting, and updating datasets for
analytical use.
- Assists with special projects and ad hoc data requests as
needed.Collaboration, Communication, & Institutional Knowledge:
- Works both independently and collaboratively with
cross-functional teams to develop exceptional data products to meet
university needs.
- Engages and communicates with partners and stakeholders to
manage requests, expectations, and deliverables.
- Effectively communicates project status, progress, risks, and
issues to drive project to completion.
- Develops an in-depth knowledge of university data
processes.
- Handles confidential information with tact and discretion.
- Implements best practices for data governance, data management,
project management, and version control.Required Qualifications
- Master's degree with advanced quantitative experience (e.g.,
social sciences, statistics, applied mathematics, economics,
etc.).
- Five years of professional experience with data
analysis/research, data communications/writing/editing and
interpretation of data.
- Expert in data analysis, with demonstrated passion for using
data to answer questions and solve problems.
- Proven ability to synthesize complex and/or ambiguous
information from multiple sources using a variety of tools and
techniques to transform that information into consumable
insights.
- Expertise in using at least one data/statistics syntax language
(e.g., R, Python, MATLAB) to query large databases, manipulate, and
analyze data.
- Experience with advanced statistical methods (e.g., generalized
linear models, factor analysis, SVMs, ROCs).
- Demonstrated experience in managing and implementing a
data-research project from conception to presentation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to positively contribute to
collaborative team, influence without authority, and thoughtfully
and productively give and receive feedback.
- Proven prioritization and organizational skills with the
ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, critical
thinking and creative problem-solving, rigorous documentation
habits, and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of
professionalism.Relevant education and experience may be
substituted as appropriate.Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree with data analysis and applied statistics
experience.
- Demonstrated research-mindset: the ability to interrogate a
business question, design and implement an analytical approach,
interpret the analysis, and communicate the analysis to
stakeholders.
- Comfort with ambiguity. Proficiency in R language, ggplot2, and
R markdown/Quarto.
- Experience using Agile methodologies, Jira project management
software, and GitHub for version control and code review.
- Experience with higher education data, processes, and
progress.
- Knowledge of federal education law and policies related to
education records.Salary Range$88,000 + depending on
qualificationsWorking Conditions

- Up to 100% remote at employee discretion with office work
environment also an option. Majority of team is located in Austin,
TX, and working remotely with infrequent in-office
